How to look alive during winter

Its 7:00am on a winter morning and your alarm clock is having a tantrum like a four year old in a supermarket. Again.

The bags under your eyes are something you could go sale shopping with and nothing but a miracle could save you. Hallelujah for makeup.

First and foremost, to cover those damn eye bags use a liquid concealer with a good coverage. For a budget drugstore hit, opt for Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer  or if you're feeling adventurous, try out the Mac Pro Longwear Concealer. Choose a shade one lighter than your foundation to brighten the under eye area. Apply the concealer after your foundation, either with your fingertips or a makeup brush to nicely blend it into your base. Apply powder over this to keep the concealer in place and ensure nobody finds out you actually stayed up till 4.36am watching reruns of gossip girl and crying that Chuck Bass will never be yours.

The next trick to resurrect your face from its winter death it to not over mattify your face. By all means go crazy with some translucent powder on your T-zone but then remember to use highlighter. Just swipe a bit across the top of your cheek bones, down your nose, along your brow bone and on your cupid's bow to create the illusion of fully lips (you cheeky minx). When the winter sun shines this will give you a really lovely glow as well as the other benefits highlighter provides.

Despite the matte lips craze that has come in this winter, I find for day time a pinky-red sheer lipstick, like Clarins Joli Rouge Brilliant Perfect Shine in Guava, is your best option and really gives a healthy appearance. Team this with a rosey coloured blush and you're good to go. (under no circumstances wear a nude lip colour that's paler than your skin, unless you want to look like Wednesday Addams on a bad day.)

I hope that I've managed to give you some form of useful tip for how to look alive on those morning that you certainly don't feel it. Let me know of any tips you have in the comment section below,
